The millennium saw the official opening of the National Botanical Garden of Wales near Llanarthney near Llandeilo. The Great Glass House designed by Norman Foster is the centrepiece of the Gardens. Aberglasney just four miles away opened on the July 4th 1999 and features the restored gardens, walkway and yew tunnel of a bygone age. Gelli Aur Park features an arboretum and deer park.
Although in the heart of the Towy Valley many beaches can be reached within an hour. The spectacular beaches of Gower, Rhossili, Three Cliffs, Oxwich, Langland, and Caswell Bay are always popular destinations. Pembrey Country park combines a wonderful beach and dunes with riding, cycling, and even a dry ski slope. Llansteffan has a lovely beach as well as a castle, and then on to Saundersfoot and Tenby with the Pembrokeshire coast beyond.
